I have known Anchun since 1995. We chose Anchun as our sole technology provider for our syngas purification, ammonia synthesis system for the past twenty years. The scale of the implementation probably has been one of the largest in China, which says lot about the friendship between us. Over the past twenty years, Anchun has implemented seven ammonia synthesis system and five syngas purification system in our plant. From the very beginning of our journey with Anchun, we have grown into the No.1 urea producer in Shanxi Province and No.3 large-granule urea producer in China. And we have witnessed Anchun transform itself from a small start-up operating in a rental place to an integrated technology provider, reactor manufacturer and catalyst producer.

The ammonia systems that Anchun developed have demonstrated high ammonia conversion, low energy consumption and operational reliability at our plants. The syn-gas purification systems also performed superiorly with low pressure drop, low residual impurities. Anchun has never stopped to optimize and improve the process technology to better suit our plant.  Anchun’s catalysts also demonstrated good performance and long lifetime.

The Isothermal CO Shift Reactor Technology developed by Anchun is first-of-its-kind in China. It solved difficult environmental and technical problems of off-gas re-utilization and temperature-control problem. With features of high CO conversion exceeding 98%, 80% plus reaction heart re-utilized for steam-raising, reactor pressure drop less than 0.01MPa, catalyst prolonged from 2~3 years to 6~8 years, the technology is suitable for both new-build and re-vamp projects. It is applicable for calcium carbide off-gas reutilization, coal-to-ammonia, coal-to-natural gas,  coal-to-hydrogen, coal to ethylene glycol, coal-to-methanol and coal-to-olefin process. The upstream gasification can be entrained-flow, water-slurry or fixed-bed for the CO shift reaction. It offer superior performance and economic advantages especially when the inlet CO content and steam-gas ratio are high.

Anchun’s isothermal reactor is a big contribution to the chemical industry. Chemical reactions are the foundation of chemical industry. Reactor is the heart of a chemical process. Chemical industry all along seeks to lower material consumption, energy consumption, investment and meet high safety and environmental standards. The important contribution of Anchun’s isothermal reactor to the chemical industry can be summarized as:

  1. Isothermal condition ensures high reaction conversion and scale-up capability;
  2. Isothermal condition ensures broad catalyst selection, which can be focused on target product, not constrained by temperature applicability;
  3. Compared with conventional methanol reactor and CO shift reactor, Anchun’s isothermal reactor is easy to operate. Mild reaction condition solves the hot-spot temperature spikes often seen in conventional reactors. Catalyst lifetime doubles.
  4. Expensive special purpose material is no longer needed for reactor construction because of the mild reaction condition. External boiler is no longer needed.
  5. Anchun’s isothermal reactor has a wide applicability for many medium and low-pressure gas-solid reactions, especially the methanation reaction in the coal-to-natural gas process. The conventional coal-to-natural gas process involves multiple reactors because of high evolved heat and concerns for temperature spikes and the need to re-cycle the reacted gas stream for better conversion. Using the isothermal reactor to replace conventional adiabatic reactor is a huge improvement—we can even say, a revolution, in chemical industry development. The economic and social benefits are immeasurable.
